The New HIPAA Audit Process: Implications to Healthcare Providers and Vendors Explored!
The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the US Department of Health & Human Services has started the Phase II of its Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Audit Program for covered entities, including healthcare and health plans providers, and their business associates. The Phase II reviews the policies and procedures adopted and employed by covered entities and business associates which should be able to meet certain standards and implementation specifications of the Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules. The OCR will use the final Phase II audit reports to better understand compliance efforts and develop new guidance relevant to the HIPAA Rules. However, OCR may conduct a full compliance review if grave violations of the rules are discovered.
The Knowledge Group has assembled a panel of key thought leaders that will help HIPAA covered entities and business associates understand the important aspects of the Phase II of HIPAA Audit Program. They will offer suggestions on how to prepare for an audit and best practices on HIPAA compliance.
